Update: Thanks to everyone who has backed Ae’s calendar project! We are almost halfway there. We only have a few days left, so please, please repost this to help us meet our goal.

Check out the kickstarter page for Ae’s 2012 calendar. We didn’t have a printed calendar for 2011, and a lot of people missed that. I hope we can raise funds to print one for next year.

Most of the people reading this blog already know what Altered Esthetics is, but for those who don’t, here’s the scoop: Ae is a non-profit gallery in Northeast Minneapolis, run for artists by artists. The board is made up of volunteers who donate hundreds of hours of their time to organize 14 group exhibits each year, plus workshops and a solo exhibitions program.

Artists love Ae, and here are a few reasons why:

-It is cheap to participate. We don’t charge a fee to submit artwork…there is a small exhibition/hanging fee, but you don’t pay a penny unless your work is actually being displayed. (if only that were the norm)

-For certain exhibits, even the exhibition fee is waived!

-Ae’s commission for sold artwork is relatively low.

-We accept all kinds of art: comics, videos, puppets, textiles, paintings…it’s all good.

-We are welcoming, and unpretentious. Anyone can exhibit with us, even if they don’t have an impressive CV.

-We host offbeat shows that encourage people to make art for art’s sake, as opposed to art that is easy to sell because it looks good over a sofa.

-We offer advice and career development for emerging artists.

If you appreciate what Ae does, show some love by helping us print our 2012 calendar. A pledge of only $5 gets you an art calendar, which you can pick up at the gallery. For a pledge of $10, we’ll mail it to you. That’s a fraction of the cost of driving to a store and buying a mass-produced calendar. If you plan on participating in any Ae events next year, this calendar is nice to have, because it lists openings, deadlines, and workshops. 🙂

Thanks for reading!
