Anyone who’s read False Witness: The Michele Bachmann Story knows that it’s sort of a group effort. Obviously, the lion’s share of the credit goes to Bill Prendergast for writing, producing, researching, and taking great pains to provide citations for all the direct quotes used in the comic. The text is precise, but he gives us artists some latitude when it comes to the images–we all work in our own styles and sometimes add visual gags or embellishments. So I wanted to use this post to give a shout-out to everyone who worked on it, and share some of my favorite bits, in order of appearance. This is only a small sample, and it was hard to decide on just a few panels to post here. If you want to see more, the books are reasonably priced and available online.

First up is this panel which Dan Olson drew and inked (or maybe Bill drew it and Dan inked it…I’m not sure). Anyway, it’s Captain Magritte! Need I say more? Ceci n’est pas une pipe.

This next one is from the segment Danno Klonowski inked. There are lots of really funny images in that portion of the book (look for Mr. Peanut on page 8 if you’re following along at home), but this one stands out to me because the tin foil hat with twinkle lights (a running gag in these comics) is soooo much cuter than the tinfoil hat I drew in my segment. Oh, speaking of my segment, this is my favorite part of the pages I drew. Not because of the art, but because I think the writing here is very effective. I like the way Bill took something loony Bachmann said and matter-of-factly smacked it down in the very next panel using basic info that’s readily available to…oh, everyone except Michele Bachmann. (click it!)

Next up are a couple panels from the section James Powell drew and inked. I think these caricatures are just brilliant, and don’t you love the little curlicues on Michele’s word balloons?

Last but not least is the technicolor back cover drawn by Ryan Dow. (Click to enlarge)

Well, I didn’t take many pictures, and I don’t have any of myself.
I forgot to bring the camera on Saturday; Sunday was kinda dead. There weren’t as many costumes, and attendance seemed to be a lot lower.

Here’s my half of the table. See Big Funny proudly displayed there! I sold several over the weekend, and my comrades sold a bunch too. I think our collective enthusiasm for it was catching.

See issue 1 of False Witness! The empty space next to it is where issue 2 was before I sold my last copy. Oh yeah, I was sold out. But writer Bill Prendergast brought some more in the afternoon.

See my baby lovingly coloring her copy of Steven Stwalley’s Moony Moon, Where Are You!

Here’s a potty chart my little poppet drew Sunday morning. It went on display at the end of the table.

My tablemate Vas lookin’ fierce with Dmitri and Zoya.

Poppet wanted to take a picture of Vas sketcha-hooping. Or hoopa-doodling. Doodla-hooping? Hula-tooning?

Yeah, I know I’m taking forever to post Fallcon stuff. I’ve been busy winterizing the house. Here are some cool sketches from last weekend.

A cute roly-poly cat Ken Avidor drew for my daughter. The best part? He drew it upside-down!

Here’s a sketch my tablemate Vas did of me. It totally looks like me, and if you look closely, you can see she even drew parody versions of my comics on the table behind me!

Also, check out this video of Vas’ hulahooping sketching trick, shot by Bill Prendergast. Fun to watch, and in the background you can see my baby messing stuff up at Jilly Foo’s table.

(Edit: to be fair, she wasn’t really messing stuff up. She was trying to help straighten, but I think she was making Jill nervous.)

This one here was inked and partly drawn by False Witness writer and artist Bill Prendergast.

tributeacts_midol

Partly drawn? What do you mean, Lupi? Well, I drew Billy Midol but I have any bright ideas for the background, so there was a lot of negative space on the right hand side when Bill took over. When I got the page back I was pleasantly surprised to see that he drew and inked a whole audience. And I’m in the audience! Fun times! Thanks, Bill!

I have 2 more of these I’ll be posting early next week. One inked by Kevin Cannon, and one by Jon Sloan.
