AZ is a Trekkie

Yesterday I got some Star Trek comics from Zander Cannon. AZ’s reaction when she saw what I brought home:

She curled up in her “reading cave” and stayed there for a couple hours.

Look Mama, it’s O’Brien! You must take a photo to document his presence!

Her favorite part is when Picard points at Riker’s beard. “Number 1…No, not you, Riker. The BEARD. The beard is Number 1!”

Here is a “sculpture” AZ made for the Brewers’ Craft show at Ae. I’m not sure I like the idea of my 8-year-old making beer art, but I am impressed with her deadline-consciousness. Don’t let the post date fool you–she did this on Feb 1st…2 weeks before the deadline! (The deadline is the 15th! C’mon, you’re not gonna let a kid outdo you, right?)

 

A Hadpanagus story by AZ

Here’s a story AZ made. It’s supposed to be by a hadpanagus named Hadpanagas. This is the sort of thing literate hadpanaguses like to read.

 

AZ’s monologue about the Toilet Vault

Here is what AZ told me while walking to school:

“Today I get to touch Fiona’s lunch bag! And her hat! Because they’re dead in the game. They can’t go down the toilet vault. Josh is dead in the game too. Only I get to go down the toilet vault. And Josh says, “No, kitty! Noooo!” Because I’m a kitty in the game, and he doesn’t want the kitty to go down the toilet vault. But when I go down the toilet vault, Josh comes back to life.”

Me: What is the toilet vault? A slide?

“Yeah, the toilet vault is a slide. The tunnel slide. There are some regular slides, and only one tunnel slide, and that’s the toilet vault. That’s why we play the toilet vault game on it, but we can’t play dangerous computer on it. I can show you the toilet vault today, if you’re at school for recess. Will you stay at school and go to recess? [She's always thinking of reasons for me to go to school with her.] I can show you the toilet vault, and then if you turn right and look ahead, you can see the dangerous computer.

“The dangerous computer is a thing with a scary face and pointy teeth. I thought it was my bed because I was a doggy in that game. Or a kitty. I couldn’t decide. They told me not to touch it, so I touched it, like, a thousand times! And then, basically, we had to run to the first playground, and then back to the second playground, and then to the first playground again! Because basically, if you touch the dangerous computer, the second playground fake blows up! Do you want to see the toilet vault and the dangerous computer?”

This is Little Tugboat.

The Little Tugboat got untied from the dock. But a bear cub jumped on the tugboat as it sailed away.

Just then, a giant sea monster came up from under the sea. The tugboat was scared.

The End (Just for now!)

Beary’s great adventure. Here Beary plays woth Nemo, flies a plane, walks a dog, goes fishing, goes swimming, plays on a swing set, eats dinner, reads a book, and goes on a plane again.

Back to Little Tugboat!

Little Tugboat is still being threatened by the sea monster.

There’s a big (abstract) storm!

Then the sea monster tries to eat Little Tugboat, and breaks his teeth on Little Tugboat’s metal hull! Little Tugboat goes, “TOOT!” (instead of “puff”). The sea monster runs away to the dentist.
